The Black Horse Community Group Limited – A Community Benefit Society
A Community Benefit Society (CBS) is an enterprise run by the community for the benefit of the community and not for any individuals’ private gain. It is incorporated and registered under the Co‑operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The Black Horse Community Group is a CBS who now owns The Black Horse pub in Grimston.
To raise the funds to purchase and keep the pub in good order individuals have bought withdrawable shares, each costing £50. The minimum shareholding is £50 and the maximum £20,000. The Society currently has 176 members with each member having an equal voice and equal vote, irrespective of the size of their investment.
The Society runs the pub with a Tenant who pays rent to the Society. The Society supplements its rent income and any share income with grants and donations as apppropriate.
The Society’s Rules can be found on the website under “Downloads”.
A Community Benefit Society means we can all own a piece of our community for perpetuity – for this and future generations
